Kinema (1911-1919, available from 1913) was the first national film magazine in Switzerland. It was initially published by Georges Hipleh Jr., then by different publishing companies. Kinema was the official organ of the Association suisse des distributeurs de films (ASDF, now the Association cinématographique suisse), since the association's founding in 1915. The weekly trade magazine represented the interests of Swiss cinema managers and film distributors. It commented on questions of film art, defended the cinema against its critics or commented on official regulatory measures. The journal also served the day-to-day business needs of the emerging entertainment industry (international news, association news, film descriptions, advertisement). Kinema was published at a crucial time for the emergence of the modern film industry.
