KUNSTmaterial is a book series published by the Swiss Institute for Art Research (SIK-ISEA) with the goal of disseminating research results of the department of Art Technology. The series is devoted to technological art history – meaning the processes from which works of art emerge – as well as to the examination and conservation of art. KUNSTmaterial aims at reflecting the crucial role of art technological research within the range of SIK-ISEA's activities.
The Swiss Institute for Art Research, founded in 1951, is a competence centre for art scholarship and art technology with both a national and an international focus. Its primary activities are research, documentation, dissemination of knowledge and services in the field of fine art. Its core speciality is the production of art in Switzerland from the Middle Ages to the present day.
