In 2009, a group of art history students at the University of Lausanne came up with the idea that the canton lacked a magazine that would showcase this unique heritage and keep readers up to date with the latest research. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Dave Lüthi, students devoted several months of their free time to creating a high-quality journal. And so, in 2010, the annual journal Monuments vaudois was born.
Monuments vaudois is a publication platform for research into the heritage of the canton of Vaud. Independent and established researchers contribute to the journal, as do recent graduates who have dealt with a regional subject as part of their dissertation, and students who have carried out high-quality research during their university studies. The journal promotes the next generation of regional art historians and helps young researchers enter the professional world of art and heritage historians.
The Office cantonal de la Protection des biens culturels and the Délégation à la conservation du patrimoine bâti of the City of Lausanne also contribute to the journal through their work on heritage inventories and conservation.
The subjects covered are deliberately varied and are drawn from Vaud's heritage in the broadest sense: history of monuments, restoration of monuments, architecture, mural painting, sculpture, furniture, stained glass, goldsmiths' work, archaeology, publication of sources.
