Since 1906 the Swiss periodical Neue Wege focuses on the conflicting interplay between religion and politics. Its main topics - treated from a theological and socio-ethical perspective - are justice, peace and the protection of creation. In its editorial outline the journal is committed to an open ecumenical Christianity and an independent democratic socialism. More than one hundred years of publication allow critical insights into political and ecclesiastical history. Over the last century the journal's subtitle changed several times from Blätter für religiöse soziale Arbeit at founding times to today's Beiträge zu Religion und Sozialismus (contributions to religion and socialism).

The Neue Wege consider themselves mouthpiece for the religio-social movement and further groups advocating a religious or ethical socialism. Since 1924 the journal has been edited by the Freundinnen und Freunde der Neuen Wege (Friends of the Neue Wege). The association supports other publications as well and organizes reading groups and events on religious socialism.
