Switzerland is the magazine that the Swiss National Tourist Office (today Switzerland Tourism) founded in 1917. The purpose of this organization was, and still is, to make Switzerland known as a holiday and conference destination, in collaboration with the Swiss tourism industry.
The first issue of the magazine was published in 1927 by the SBB advertising service. It was ceded to the Swiss National Tourist Office in 1933. From that date, the magazine has appeared as a mouthpiece of a group involving SBB, the Swiss National Tourist Office, automobile associations, as well as the Directorate General of Swiss Post and the Swiss aviation union. In 1935, the magazine attained the status of an official tourist magazine and took the name Schweiz, Suisse, Svizzera, Switzerland. Since its first issues, the magazine has had a high circulation. In 1934, 21'000 copies per month were published including 16'000 distributed in Swiss trains.
Switzerland is an important historical collection showcasing the evolution of the Swiss brand over the years.
